IE wont start as forced programme under Win 7100 RC

Im a registered user and have set IE to run by default in a sandbox. Im using Win 7100 RC.

With IE set as a forced prog, it will start once from the start menu, but thereafter will not start again if selected from the start menu.

It will run fine if I start it from within sandboxie menu.

If i select to run IE from the start menu, a second or third time, it will try to run (items appear in the sandbox, but then they close down and IE never appears.

Oddly, If I click on IE in the start menu, then while IE is trying to load, click it on the start menu again, IE will start.

IE will start more instances of itself from the start menu if IE is already running.

I have tried selecting run as UAC admin and this does not help.

Is there a way round this?

I am currently using Sandboxie 3.38 and Windows 7 Build 7100:

First of all I wanted to start a benchmark using 3DMark05, 3DMark06 and 3DMark Vantage. All had the same behaviour: When started sandboxed the program switches to Full Screen Mode and the display becomes black... but nothing happens. (I am still able to shut down by pressing the power button.) Starting the program unsandboxed works well!

With World in Conflict I was able to track down the problem a little:
Starting the game in Window Mode works fine, but when switching to Full Screen Mode the game displays Full Screen, but reacts only in the top left area of the display with dimensions as the one in Window Mode. (It seems like it is still in Window Mode).

Best regards,

I don't have an answer for either problem yet, but I'm putting this in the Open Issues forum so I remember to look into them.

Is this still an issue? There are now more people using Sandboxie on Windows 7 and I don't recall anyone else mention this problem.

IE will not run as a forced program for me on Windows 7 RTM. Running IE sandboxed on-demand (via shortcut or context menu) works as expected.

I've tested on Windows 7 build 7600. This is the RTM isn't it? Forced programs and forced folders work as expected. So I don't know what I can do about this.

Yes, build 7600 is the RTM. For me, IE is the only app that fails to run in a forced sandbox (by file or folder). The only observation I can add is that IE will run forced only if another sandboxed process exists.

Oh, initially I thought the problem described here was about the forced programs mechanism. Now I understand the problem is speifically with IE 8.

Still, not sure how I can reproduce this.

I have read a post that someone else posted saying that they had a similar problem and it was speculated that it was probably indirectly caused by zonealarm.
I don't have any security software including zonealarm installed and I'm having problems. However unlike the other person who got messages poping up (about missing components) I don't get any message and no window appears. It's as if Internet Explorer tries to start then is "killed". Internet Explorer v. 8 works fine under sandboxie as long as it's not run as a forced program. Using Sandboxie v. 3.39.19 Windows 7 (32)

IE8 works fine both ways for me with SB 3.39.21 and Win7 RTM Ultimate. Can you check if there's an existing IE8 instance running hidden maybe (iexplore.exe)? With the way IE8 works now with running multiple processes, if an unsandboxed instance exists, opening a new sandboxed window will fail, and vice versa.

Throughout the 3.39 beta builds, running IE 8 forced (via forced program, forced folder, or template) on Windows 7 RTM Ultimate always fails except when another sandboxed process exists. Sandboxing IE manually works as expected. I can also reproduce this behavior on a clean, unpatched, and untweaked Windows 7 RTM Ultimate partition image.

I'm sorry, I've tried to reproduce this problem in various combinations of admin account vs standard account, dropped rights or full rights, UAC enabled or disabled. I was careful to delete the sandbox before each attempt. But it always works as expected for me.

Nick, lawnman. In the case it doesn't work, can you check if SandboxieRpcSs and SandboxieDcomLaunch come up before IEXPLORE ends?

Also, you can try running IEXPLORE under WinDbg and post the results here. More information in this post:

(You can ignore the last statement regarding k 99.)

IExplorer.exe sometimes does not appear in the list! When it does it appears first before the others
then get sandboxieRpcSs.exe followed by SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe. This lasts about two seconds before they all terminate and go away.

Note I've run I.E. with protection mode enabled (default) and disabled. Note I'm running on Windows 7 6.1.7600 final version not RC.

This log is when I click Internet explorer shortcut.
