v3.30: Media Files Don't Open When Double-Clicking On Them

In v3.30, when double-clicking on a media file (ie. avi, wmv, etc.) , Windows Media Player 9 opens up but the controls are grayed out and the file doesn't play. Worked fine in v3.29.23.

FYI: I'm running WMP 9 as a Forced Program and my media files are in a File Access-Direct Access folder.

If you want to post your ini file (include all sandboxes and global but not the user settings), I will create a duplicate to test for you.

No problems here with that. May be that some other security product is involved? Is the DefaultBox your only sandbox? Or in other words, is wmplayer.exe forced into any other sandboxes?

No other products involved. Defaultbox is my only sandbox. I'll try it as an upgrade rather than a clean install and report back in few days.

Same explaination as noway`s first post except using WMP11.
In addition, Windows auto update service is permanently disabled.
Reverted back to v329b23. WinXPSP3.

I reported this problem (also with jpg files attached to emails) - see thread
http://sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3595&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I tried some suggestions made by tZuk but we could not find a real solution.

To restate from thread what I found was:

I have a video clip - .AVI extension - if I right click on AVI file and open sandboxed then Windows Media Player opens sandboxed but the video clip does not run.

But if I ran Windows Explorer sandboxed then clicked on video from sandboxed Windows Explorer it seemed to work OK. Windows Media Player opened and showed the video. Windows Media Player had # in its title and when I dragged indicator over its window it confirmed that it was sandboxed.

The video clip works fine if run unsandboxed.

Problem still exists for upgrade install and/or clean install for 3.30 and all 3.31 beta versions. Although I can run these files using WMP File-Open, I wish we could get this fixed so I could just double-click on a media file in a folder.

Anyway to add,it seems all versions that I`ve used from V2 don`t work except V329b23.I never thought it was a serious flaw because it only affected WMP11 which I don`t use quite often. Then one day,our fine and truly talented developer,Tzuk, finally found the remedy. For that I`m grateful. Thank You. Now, the only question remain is why did this version differ from the rest. Magic Perhaps? Saucery? And to Snd Phoenix, thanks for the pointer about KMPlayer.

I don't think I've done anything to resolve this problem.

On Windows Vista, the Windows Explorer does not simply tell WMP11 which file to play, instead it launches WMP11 in a way that makes WMP11 contact Explorer to ask for the file name. With WMP11 running sandboxed, it is isolated and can't make the connection to Explorer.

The only workaround is to tweak the file association for .mp3 files (or any other file type handled by WMP11) in a way that makes Explorer revert to the normal way of passing the filename to the invoked program.

A better solution would be to switch to a non-Microsoft media player alternative.
