[.01] Using Sandboxie with Snagit

Sorry I am not at the computer in question so I don't know the version of Sandboxie or Snagit. I am pretty sure they are both recent versions, maybe not the most recent. But the OS is Windows XP SP3.

When using Snagit in a sandboxed version of IE8, you can take snapshots of web pages. But the scrolling features of Snagit don't work properly or in most cases at all. So you can't take scrolled snapshots of web pages. Snagit scrolling works fine on the same computer on the same Web pages when running an unsandboxed IE.

I thought about playing with some of the Sandboxie configuration settings, but quickly realized this is way above my pay grade.

Does anyone know if there are settings I can set to make the Snagit scrolling work in the sandboxed IE?

Thanks for any help!

I should mention that Snagit was NOT running sandboxed. The idea is to run it unsandboxed but make it work with the sandboxed IE.

I think you might have to run SnagIt under Sandboxie to get it to scroll your browser.

Really? Darn... I was hoping there was one of those bypass settings that could make it work.

Last time I heard about SnagIt was a few years ago, and I think that's how it had to be, running it in the sandbox. I'll give it another look, to see if anything has changed.

Maybe blocked keys/keystroke due security? (forgot exact message)

It actually does scroll a little in some cases, but the scrolling terminates before it finishes. In other cases it doesn't scroll at all. Other than the scrolling, everything else I tried with Snagit running outside the sandbox seems to work on IE running inside the sandbox.

You can only get SnagIt from outside the sandbox, to scroll a window inside the sandbox, if you "break" the sandbox barrier a bit.

You can do that by turning on the Screen Reader option in the Sandbox Settings > Applications > Accessibility.

It's not something that I recommend but it is an option. I would prefer to run SnagIt in the sandbox, and possibly set up some folders outside the sandbox, that sandboxed SnagIt can write directly into.

I did however take the opportunity to remove default settings for SnagIt from the core of Sandboxie in version 3.81.01, and move them out to a standard compatibility template. (Those internal settings for SnagIt actually predate the Software Compatibility feature.)

Thanks for the advice! Can you tell me the siginficance of this change? Does it mean that SnagIt compatibility settings will now be settable as a user controlled variable instead of hardwired into the code?

No, actually, it's just an administrative change. Smile
