Hello,

I'm obviously new to Sandboxie. I have it installed on Windows 7, 64 bit and it has taken over my desktop. If I want to run Internet Explorer w/o it being sandboxed it reports that there is no Internet Connection. This is really causing problems when I go to install driver updates and codes because every last thing installs within the sandbox and none of the other profiles on my computer can see the updates.

I can't turn it off! I don't want to uninstall it because I figure the same thing happens when I re-install it.

Any advise?

BEFORE REPORTING A PROBLEM:

* Delete the contents of your sandbox and check if it makes a difference.

* Make sure you use the latest official version of Sandboxie or the latest beta version.

INCLUDE IN YOUR PROBLEM REPORT:

* The version number of Sandboxie that you use. In Sandboxie Control program, select Help menu, then click About Sandboxie.

* The version number of Windows that you use, and if it is a 64-bit version.

* Specify clear names for any third-party software that are involved. Be sure to include download links for such software.

THANK YOU. PLEASE DELETE THIS TEXT BEFORE POSTING.

I can't imagine how that's possible.
Open the Sandboxie Control tray icon's window and use Configure > Edit Configuration
Copy the window contents to the Clipboard and post a copy of it in a message here.

Like sandboxie, but no one will explain in English how to get programs out of the sandbox before they are thrown into a big giant black hole. Oh, and you can put stuff in sandbox and take stuff out is really not an explination. I have downloaded Firefox from internet explorer, 3 TIMES!, If I leave the program it deletes it and there is virtually no trace that it was ever on my computer. Oh yeah, it runs it too, installs, runs, searches.... all that, then I put ghostery on Firefox, it does that too, two freaking seconds later both programs that I INSTALLED ARE GONE! Adobie Flash, gone! How do I download and keep the programs I want from dis-the-puck-a-appearing?!?!

Here's my configuration:
[GlobalSettings]

Template=GoogleToolbarIE
Template=AdobeAcrobatReader
Template=Avira_Antivirus

[DefaultBox]

SbieCtrl_AutoApplySettings=n

Please take a few minutes to read the Sandboxie tutorial.

http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?GettingStarted

If you want to install stuff, you need to make sure it runs outside the sandbox. If you have programs that always run in the sandbox, like you have Firefox set up, you can use the "Disable Forced Programs" command.

I've copied some of the relevant settings, above.
The (4) RecoverFolder= settings are the settings that are used for Quick Recovery folders in your sandbox.
That means that you must download files that you want to save outside of the sandbox, to one of those (4) folders, if you want to be prompted to recover the files.
But you can still add other folders as Quick Recovery folders, if (for example) your browser is set to download files to some other folder.
AutoRecover=y means that as soon as some file shows up in a Quick Recovery folder you will get a prompt to enable you to move that file out of the sandbox.
That could be turned off, and since you have AutoDelete selected, then you will get a prompt to recover any files from those (4) folders just before the sandbox contents are deleted.

The Template=Firefox_Force setting means that Firefox will use the DefaultBox sandbox each time it starts - assuming that you have a registered version of Sandboxie. If it's not a registered version, then this forcing will not work for you.

AutoDelete=y means that as soon as all programs that are using the sandbox are exited, then anything that is still in the (4) Quick Recovery folders will be offered for recovery outside of the sandbox (by using one of the Recover buttons), and anything else that's left in the sandbox will be deleted.

So you can't install Firefox, Flash, or Ghostery, or anything else in a sandbox that is set to auto-delete the sandbox contents, and expect it to remain there as soon as the programs using that sandbox exit. Items like that will be deleted along with everything else that wasn't recovered from the sandbox.

If you want to have a program installed in a sandbox, don't have that sandbox set to delete the contents as soon as the program ends, because it will do what you said - and delete the contents of the sandbox.

If you want Firefox installed only inside of a sandbox:
Download the Firefox installer program.
Create a new sandbox for Firefox, called something like "Firefox".
Right-click the Firefox installer and choose "Run Sandboxed"; then choose the "Firefox" sandbox.
Let the program install and run.
Run it the next time by choosing "Run From Start Menu" for that sandbox, and choose the Firefox entry on the "Desktop" menu.

If you install Firefox outside of a sandbox:
Download the Firefox installer program.
Install it outside of any sandbox and configure its settings as desired.
Create a new sandbox for Firefox, called something like "Firefox".
Use Sandbox Settings > Applications > Web Browser > Firefox to set what will be allowed out of the "Firefox" sandbox.
Set Firefox to be forced in this sandbox, not DefaultBox, if desired.
