I have just downloaded and installed Sandboxie 3.68.

Just after the install it shows me this window:

What configuration settings will improve the compatibility with these applications?

Can I revert those configuration settings some time later if I wish to do so?

Will those configuration settings also affect these installed applications?

I am very fond of Comodo Firewall as well as Panda Cloud and would not want the settings for those applications to be changed, ever. I guess what this means is that Sandboxie will work better if those configuration settings are applied, like it says in the message, however it worries me a bit that those configuration setting changes will affect all existing and future sandboxes. Does this mean that for example having Comodo Firewall installed makes Sandboxie less secure if I choose to apply those configuration settings?

What happens if I choose to not apply these configuration settings?

What happens if I choose to not apply these configuration settings now, then see what does not work well and then later on wish to apply these configuration settings?

All this sounds a bit tedious, yes I know, but I would really like to know in what way to best run Sandboxie for current as well as future sandboxes without actually affecting any of the applications installed. I guess it does not change the installed applications at all, but this somehow suggests to me that Sandboxie changes itself to either work better with those installed applications or does this mean it will change the configuration settings to avoid clashes or crashes with those installed applications?

Thanks for any detailed information on this. If this has been asked before please do feel free to link me to the correct topics or sections of the FAQ etc.

I am leaving the message window open to not mess up the install or to not be able to not revert those changes later on. I just like to know how to proceed here and most of all why?

Thanks for your time and effort.

On a side note:
These past few days I have been contemplating buying Sandboxie, I only just heard of it recently. So far I have been interested in Cuckoo Sandbox for a while now and wonder if Ronen Tzur does know it and if perhaps he would find it interesting to contribute to it? Any ways, one forum pointed me to a section here where people somewhat complain about the 90 day re-activation and ask for a silent re-activation. Has this been implemented already? I don't mind giving my personal details during the purchase process and also don't mind Sandboxie calling home to re-activate every 90 days, however if this could be done silently like suggested I would pay even 10$ more for it.

Hi John, if you apply software compatibility and you like to revert later, it can be done by clicking remove and OK. When you apply Software compatibility in the window in the picture, it applies to all sandboxes but if you prefer it can also be done only on the ones that you want to. To do so, navigate to applications in the sandbox where you like to apply software compatibility and enable it there.

On my end, I have not noticed much difference whether they are applied or not but I always enable the setting when SBIE displays the window. You can try without applying them but I think your combo of Panda, Comodo and SBIE will get along a lot better if they are applied.

About reactivating the license, I see no reason to complain, it takes only about 2 seconds and one click. No big deal. In my opinion, getting a SBIE license was a wise decision and I am very happy that I did. I am sure you will feel the same if you do.

All the OK button does in your screen print is to close the window.
The compatibility templates have already been applied to all sandboxes, as shown.
You can "Remove" any that you don't want to be applied to all sandboxes, and then come back later and "Add" it back in again if you change your mind.

Reactivation can occur silently every 180 days, or when you update to a newer version.
Example from 3.66 (or 3.67.xx) to 3.68, but there's no reactivation from 3.69.01 to 3.69.02

If you are interested in Cuckoo Sandbox you may be interested in Buster Sandbox Analyzer.

Buster Sandbox Analyzer is a malware analysis tool using Sandboxie as malware container.

OK, thank you all for your replies.

Great help! Also great it is 180 days now. I will surly place an order for this and get it ASAP. Not complaining at all. Just read what others wrote and thought I wanted to know where we are at with that. Surly not complaining, looks like I am going to love SBIE. This will save me lots of work from reverting back to clean system images quickly. Used to do this with complete system images beforehand I guess with SBIE there is no need since all tests can be done in the box and then I delete the box and the system is still untouched.

Thanks for letting me know about Buster too! Wicked!!

Last thing:
Where do I remove and add back again those compatibility settings? I am totally new to SBIE and don't really know where those settings are. I guess I still need to read through the tutorial and FAQs.

Again, thanks for your replies!

For all sandboxes:
SBIE Control>Configure>Software compatibility

For specific sandboxes, go to Applications in the sandbox where you want to add/remove the setting.
