Hello
Could someone please explain how to instal Aurora completely isolated from Firefox in its own sandbox using the WriteFilePath settings

I tried a default sandbox with these settings but it never worked am i on the right lines ?
WriteFilePath=C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
WriteFilePath=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\

EDIT
would this work ?
WriteFilePath=C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
WriteFilePath=%AppData%\Mozilla\Aurora\

Since you don't have Aurora installed outside of the sandbox, it's your current Firefox install that needs to be hidden during the sandbox install.
I use XP so I can't be sure about the paths that Win7 uses.

Is the current install path for the Firefox program files at:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
or is it at:
C:\Program Files(x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Which ever one is correct, in Sandboxie v3.65.05 (or greater) you can navigate to that folder and select it:
Sandbox Settings > Resource Access > File Access > Write-only Access
(For "All Programs")

Also , select the current "Firefox" folder that's located above the Firefox profile folder.
On XP, that's at:
%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox
On Win 7 that might be: "C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox" (I'm not sure)

On XP, I also have a "Firefox" folder here, that I would select:
%Local AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox
On Win 7 that might be: "C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox" (Again, I'm not sure)

On XP, those settings show for me as:
WriteFilePath=C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
WriteFilePath=%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\
WriteFilePath=%Local Settings%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\

[Edit] WriteFilePath=C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
I have found that for updating Firefox once it's installed inside of a sandbox, that I must delete this line:
WriteFilePath=C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
For example, after installing Fx 16 beta 1, I must delete the above setting before using the Check For Updates feature in the beta 1 version.
Otherwise, after the update process of updating to beta 2 is complete, the 'C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox' folder inside of the sandbox is empty.
If I remove the line in red before using Check For Updates, the update to beta 2 completes successfully.

Win7 users may need to do the same thing.

I suggest these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Users\peter\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox
C:\Users\peter\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox

be the ones you select for Write-Only Access, for the sandbox that Aurora will use, before you use "Run Sandboxed" to run the Aurora installer program.
Then afterwards, you may want to set this sandbox to "never remove" in:
Sandbox Settings > Delete > Delete Invocation

I don't have that problem. I initially told it not to import anything, and it doesn't ask again when I run it.
Those settings should be remembered in files that are inside of the sandbox.
Have you saved any bookmarks since the install?
As far as remembering open tabs is concerned, make sure you don't have the option to delete browsing history when Firefox closes, at:
Tools > Options > Privacy tab > (if "Clear History... " is checked: make sure "Settings" doesn't include "Browsing History")
And of course the General tab should show: "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Did you allow anything to be saved outside of the sandbox, using:
Sandbox Settings > Applications > Web Browser > Firefox
templates? You should not, although it shouldn't cause a problem since you should have a new name for the Firefox profile that's inside the sandbox.

I didn't do that because I don't see the need for it. The corresponding files/folders inside the sandbox stay as they are unless the sandboxed Firefox changes them.

I also initially told it not to import anything but it still asks, history is allowed
The only thing allowed to be saved outside of the sandbox, is the plishing database

As an experiment i removed the Write-Only settings and when started all my addons and unsandboxed setting were present
looking at my settings i notice Drop rights is ticked

Iam going to delete this sandbox and start fresh in case i missed something I will report back here what ever my findings

I started from scratch and made a new sandbox following your instructions carefully, reinstalled Aurora checking history settings ! and everything is as expected, a new standalone version with no addons or bookmarks with a new profile in the sandbox only and now everything gets remembered ! Very Happy

Not sure what I did wrong the first time ? (suspect history setting)

Thanks again for your help Guest 10

This brings up a point with the Aurora release of Firefox - version 13 - projected for release in June.
It looks like the large and unwieldy phishing database file "Urlclasifier3.sqlite" may be on it's way out.
There's no sign of it being used for Aurora, in my sandboxed install.

There's a new sub-folder called "safebrowsing" created at:
%Local AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(profilename)\safebrowsing

If installed outside of the sandbox, that would put it at:
XP: "C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(profilename)\safebrowsing"
Vista/Win7: "C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(profilename)\safebrowsing"

The folder in my sandbox contains the files:
classifier.hashkey
test-phish-simple.pset
test-phish-simple.sbstore
goog-malware-shavar.cache
goog-malware-shavar.pset
goog-malware-shavar.sbstore
goog-phish-shavar.cache
goog-phish-shavar.pset
goog-phish-shavar.sbstore
test-malware-simple.cache
test-malware-simple.pset
test-malware-simple.sbstore
test-phish-simple.cache

"classifier.hashkey" is staying static; some of the files are modified as soon as Aurora starts; and the others are modified while Aurora runs. It looks to me like it's a coming replacement for the current phishing database file.

At this time I don't know if Firefox Beta version 12, due to be released April 24, uses this same phishing protection method or not.
[Edit]Version 12 beta 2 still uses the Urlclassifier3.sqlite database file.
