I have created a sandbox with my settings for libreoffice portable (It's forced to run sandboxed)

If I double clicking libreoffice icon then i get the message "SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service name RpcSs (-1)", but all seems fine If I run LO using the "Run Sandboxed" command and I select this sandbox.

Windows 7 SP1 32-bit
Sandboxie 3.65.09
LibreOffice Portable 3.5.0 (http://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable)

I tried to reproduce the problem but it seems to work fine for me. Installed into C:\LibreOfficePortable.

Perhaps some other security software is getting in the way and blocking LibreOfficePortable.exe from starting SandboxieRpcSs.exe?

I don't think so...

Real-time security software:
Sandboxie
Malware Defender 2.8.0.0001 (only firewall)

Please start the Resource Access Monitor before clicking on the forced program icon:
http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?ResourceAccessMonitor
Then post your log here and I'll see if it has any hints for me.

Your log implies that SandboxieRpcSs.exe was started correctly.

But the detail (-1) in the message you quoted means that the program which started SandboxieRpcSs.exe never got the signal that SandboxieRpcSs.exe finished its start up correctly.

When LibreOfficePortable.exe is a forced program and you click it, then LibreOfficePortable.exe should be the one starting SandboxieRpcSs.exe, so I still think there is something interfering with the connection from LibreOfficePortable.exe to SandboxieRpcSs.exe.

I installed Malware Defender and played with it a bit, but I can't reproduce the problem.

Would you be willing to temporarily uninstall Malware Defender to make sure that it isn't playing a part in this problem?

I have uninstalled Malware Defender, but it don't make any difference.

I didn't click on LibreOfficePortable.exe icon but on LibreOfficeCalcPortable.exe icon.

If I click on LibreOfficePortable.exe icon it seems to work fine for me too, but if I try to start any other LibreOffice application like LibreOfficeCalcPortable.exe (previous resource access information), LibreOfficeWriterPortable.exe, etc. then I get the above-mentioned message (SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service name RpcSs (-1)). Confused

Thank you for taking the time to uninstall other software.

I tried running the other Libre programs like LibreOfficeCalcPortable.exe, but I did not see the error SBIE2204.

Do you get this error immediately or is there a noticeable delay? (Like 30 seconds)

Immediately. It takes less than a second to see the message.

Alright, so I think what happens is that SandboxieRpcSs.exe is started by LibreOfficeCalcPortable.exe, but then it aborts for some reason, and then you see the error message. So I expect that when you're seeing the message, you don't also see SandboxieRpcSs.exe process listed in Sandboxie Control. Can you confirm this?

I think there is some chance that it could be somewhat related to this problem report,
http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=12685

So what I want to do is look into that other problem, then hopefully release something that fixes it, and ask you to check if it makes a difference also in your case.

As it turns out, the problem report in the other topic seems very much related to F-Secure security software. Nevertheless I incorporated the same fix in the 32-bit build as well, so please try to see if it makes any difference. Get it here --

It's weird but when I'm seeing the error SBIE2204 I also see SandboxieRpcSs.exe process listed in LibreOffice Sandbox.
The only difference, with my other sandbox, is that SandboxieRpcSs.exe process is the first listed in LO Sandbox. In all other, SandboxieRpcSs.exe is the second listed and the first is always the forced program.

v3.67.01a don't make any difference. Sad

Thanks!

I gave it another shot and installed LibreOffice in another computer and this time I do see the problem! Smile

I'll need to look into this a bit more but it seems like both LibreOfficeCalcPortable.exe and LibreOfficePortable.exe try to start SandboxieRpcSs at the same time, and one of them gets confused about it.

I'll post another update soon.
