Patch Tuesday broke Sandboxie
Broke my system, too. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with Service Pack 1 installed. Removed ''Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2660465'') and Sandboxie 3.64 (registered) works again (sigh of relief). One thing that I notice when booting up was a never seen before message from UAC to allow c:/windows/system32/sc.exe to start Sandboxie (yes, I allowed it). Other security products installed, running and kept up to date: Comodo Internet Explorer (Firewall, Defense+ and Sandbox, no AV) NOD32 Antivirus 5 SpyShelter Premium, no experimental Keyscrambler premium PrevX Safeonline SuperAntiSpyware (on demand only) MalwareBytes (on demand only) |

Tzuk,
In my configuration of Spyshelter Premium 6.0: Not using AntiKernelModeLogger. IIRC, that is 32-bit only since Windows 7 64-bit has patch guard. Under Settings, Advanced, Use hard hooks is off. |

I'm experiencing the same problem after yesterday's Patch Tuesday as Smarty, Pants and ssly42. I'm using Win7 Home Premium 64-bit, avast! Free Antivirus; Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (PRO);SpyShelter Premium 6.00 (AntiKernelModeLogger and "Use hard hooks" are disabled); KeyScrambler Personal; Spybot Search & Destroy.
So I uninstalled SpyShelter Premium a few minutes ago. And Sandboxie 3.64 works fine again. I did not try to uninstall "Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2660465)". Question: which one is the least dangerous: no KB2660465, no SpyShelter or no Sandboxie? |

At this point it seems that SpyShelter is definitely involved here, but unfortunately I don't see the problem with the trial version of SpyShelter.
I sent a request for assistance to SpyShelter so I hope I can have an update on this issue soon. |

Hello Tzuk, Both the option in my copy of SpyShelter Premium - "use hard hooks" & "AntiKernelModeLogger" are not used. Anyway, I have written to SpyShelter as a customer on this issue (pointing to this thread). Hopefully they will get back to you & both parties can solve this problem together. Thank you. |

Welcome to the club! On the serious side, I have uninstalled KB2660465 & hidden it until the problem is solved. |

Hello Tzuk,
Have you managed to contact SpyShelter? If need be, I can provide email of a specific person you can contact with (I was betaing for them before I bought my own license). |

Tzuk,
Using VMWare Workstation 8, I took a Windows 7 Ultimate with Service Pack 1 ''vanilla'' virtual machine (base operating system with no additional software except VMWare tools), updated the OS with the most recent Microsoft maintenance, including the MS fix that broke things, and then installed versions 3.54 to 3.64 of Sandboxie (downloaded from your web site) and versions 5.40 and 6.0 of SpyShelter Premium (5.4 was a download from 7/2011 on my hard disk, 6.0 was upgraded from the Spyshelter web site during the test). Note that I used SpyShelter Premium and not SpyShelter Personal Free. According to the Spyshelter website the Personal Free version does not support 64-bit Windows 7. The downloaded version of SpyShelter Premium appears to be fully functional. System was rebooted between installs and removals. No configuration changes were made to either product. Results: With the Microsoft fix applied: --Versions 3.54, 3.56, 3.58 of Sandboxie work with SpyShelter premium 5.4 and 6.0. Sandboxie starts after it is installed and no errors are noted after rebooting. --Versions 3.60, 3.62 and 3.64 of Sandboxie do not work with either SpyShelter premium 5.4 or 6.0. Sandboxie does not start after it is installed. The error indicator (exclamation point appears in the triangle) appears after rebooting. It would appear that the MS fix breaks Sandboxie starting with 3.60 when installed with SpySshelter Premium. |
