What's changed to fix the problem?

Nothing except moving from sbie 3.56 to sbie 3.57.02 I think...

As for the dictionary software, what is it exactly? Is there a free download for it available anywhere?

No, there is no free download of this dictionary.
I could pass to you an iso (as there is no copy protection) for debugging purpose (would you be interested in a French/French dictionary ?)

Now, there is a free online version. By default, this version doesn't require java (as everything must be server side processed)
http://atilf.atilf.fr/dendien/scripts/tlfiv4/showps.exe?p=combi.htm;java=no;

I just noticed that url could be changed to java=yes but... alas, it DO work with the online version
(the problem stands in the offline version between the launch screen and the search screen, which is exactly the same as the one you see online. As such, when one gets to the search screen, there is no problem to keep using the dictionary. That's why even with java=yes with the online version, I was pretty sure I could not reproduce the problem - one get directly to the search screen, no prior launch screen)

Of course I'm not interested in the program at all except to analyze this problem. But I don't think it's a good idea for you to send me a full ISO worth of copyrighted material which you are not allowed to distributed. Perhaps you could send me just that showp.exe?

sure, you're right ! (although this dictionary is the result of the work of some French universities, and belongs to a public research center ; yes it is copyrighted, but it is not really a commercial product !)

here is this showp.exe
http://Sendoid.com/33x43

starting with sbie 3.57.02, firefox no longer freezes, but reports that js.js line 17 is busy or not responsive. We can wait the script to be responsive again, or stop it, but in both cases, the dictionary prints its error message on screen, and showp.exe + werfault.exe are terminated.
Here is this js.js in case you need it!

Thanks Tzuk

There seems to be something wrong with this file hosting service, I get files that seem to have the correct size, but are full of spaces or null bytes. Can you upload these files somewhere else? Thanks.

Nevertheless, I PM you another link.

Sorry Tzuk for the inconvenience, I don't know what's going on with sendoid. It uses to work well Smile

Thanks, got it. Outside the sandbox "showp" complains about some missing DLL, but inside the sandbox it crashes. So I can already see some difference in behavior. I'll look into this and post an update.

Please check if version 3.57.03 fixes the problem with the showp.exe file.

First try after updating to latest beta changed nothing... but after rebooting the computer and going with a fresh new windows session, everything seems right and OK. I have no idea of what you did, but the thing seems to cut the mustard!
Kol hakavod Tzuk and a big thank you!
