Just got converted to Sophos anti-virus version 9.7 and now my computer will freeze completely after I close my browser and delete the contents in the sandbox. Sad
I am running Sandboxie version 3.54. Cool

Anyone with a similar experience and how do you deal with this software conflict ? Idea

I do not have the option of uninstalling Sophos and I really like to use SBIE Twisted Evil How ? Question

I will download the free trial and see if I can reproduce the problem.

But it is important for me to know which version of Windows you use.

Just to make sure that tzuk can replicate this complete computer freeze.

The computer freeze will occur after the 2nd time the contents of the sandbox is deleted.
The first time is okay. Or you may set the sandbox to auto-delete after the browser is closed and the computer freeze will occur
after the 2nd time the contents of the sandbox is auto-deleted.

Thank you for the clarification. I hope I can post an update here soon.

Uninstalling Sophos is not an option for me as this is a corporate notebook with restricted Sophos settings which make it impossible for me to exclude the Sandboxie program folder and C:\Sandbox\ folder for my on-access scanning. Mad

Until a solution is found, I would have to abandon Sandboxie for the time being as I experienced too many entire computer freezes in a day forcing a hard restart each time. Twisted Evil

There have been past reports here about an incompatibility with Sophos:

http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3588
http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=7423

I'm afraid the bug is in Sophos Anti-Virus and I can't do much about it. However I will incorporate some
workaround in the next beta version of Sandboxie which will prevent the deadlock but make it impossible
to delete the sandbox, if you ran any programs in that sandbox since the last computer restart.

In other words the only time you will be able to delete the sandbox will be after you restart the computer
and before you run any program in the sandbox. Clearly, it is still bad, but at least you won't see lock ups.

Also I contacted Sophos about this, I hope they will be interested to fix this in some future version.

Thanks, tzuk, for looking into this Sophos compatibility further. Smile

Your proposed interim workaround with some limitations on emptying the sandboxes would still be better for me as a Sophos user as it would still allow me to use Sandboxie protection without any computer freeze or lockups forcing a hard reboot each time. Very Happy

Sophos is getting popular with corporate accounts and hope Sophos will improve their software and bugs for better compatibility. Razz

Look forward and awaiting your next beta release for this interim fix. Idea

Tested 3.55.09 and works as you've said about not being able to delete the sandboxes until a restart, etc.

At least now my computer does not freeze or lockup now which is a good compromise and present a workable solution until Sophos improves on their AV software.

Thanks, tzuk, for your fix and I am able to use both Sophos and Sandboxie again on my computer with a small trade-off ! Very Happy
