The joke is funny, but we can't really fault Microsoft for the problem with RpcSs. This is a problem in Sandboxie 3.45, which so far has gone undetected during beta testing, and you just happened to come across it now because you had to upgrade, rather than only once I released the official version 3.46. So perhaps there is some good in that, in some way, after all.
Thanks for posting the list of software, let's see if anyone else has something in common. |

I'm using Comodo Firewall and Avast! antivirus. I disabled Comodo and turned off all the Avast! providers and it still gave me that error. With the firewall disabled and the Avast! providers disabled I proceeded to reinstall Sandboxie and it still gave me that error. I then, uninstalled Sandboxie (firewall and antivirus disabled) and same error comes up. I see these two programs running in Sandboxie: Start.exe and SandboxieRpcSs.exe. Thanks for looking into this. |

Clarification. After uninstalling Sandboxie, I reinstalled 3.45.07. Go the welcome screen, but the RpcSc error still comes up even with the Firewall and antivirus disabled. |

mtl, in addition to the errors from Sandboxie, do you also get an error message from Windows saying that SandboxieRpcSs generated an error and had to be terminated?

mtl: In my case, that error from Windoze only comes up ONCE - just after you launch Sandboxie for the first time after a re-boot. It appears just after you click on the run browser in Sandboxie icon. It may be helpful to note any differences from the above behavior. tzuk: Thanks for staying on this. |

I don't get any Windows error, just the Sandboxie popup with the RpcSc error. By the way, I'm running Windows XP. |

Let's try something. Go to Sandbox Settings > Applications > Accessibility, and check the box there. This disables some functionality within SandboxieRpcSs, so let's see if it gets rid of the error. It would not be a long term solution, but merely a first step in trying to identify the cause of the problem.

Checking that box does stop the error. I have not tried rebooting to see if Windoze also quits giving the error. I need to finish some work first. |

tzuk: I tried that and still get the error. I even rebooted in case it helped and still get the error. It appears about every 20 seconds. exfetus & tzuk: What I'm doing is dragging Firefox into Sandboxie Control. That shows Sandboxie running Start.exe and SandboxieRpcSs.exe. Then about 15 later I get the error "SBIE2204 Cannot start sandboxed service RpcSs (-1)" and it keeps appearing every 20 seconds. Firefox doesn't open (waited 60 seconds). Same problem when I drag a PDF document into Sandboxie, get the error every 20 seconds and the PDF doesn't open. Thanks for checking into this. |

I am sorry to report that I rebooted and the symptoms re-appeared. Everything is exactly the same as before. I even tried toggling the check box for JAWS, etc. No change. Why something appeared to work the first time, I have no idea. Maybe UFOs? |

I did a deep search and found what appears to be a very applicable Dr. Watson log. I also have a user.dmp file that is over 5MB if you really need it. Hope this helps. snipped. --tzuk |

That might help. Let me see if I can make some sense of this.

That log doesn't make sense. It indicates that SandboxieRpcSs crashes when it invokes some service in SbieDll, and it turns out that service hasn't had a chance to initialize yet. But initialization of that service happens when SbieDll loads into the SandboxieRpcSs process, which should be one of the first things to occur within that process.
So my conclusion must be that for some reason, SbieDll was not initialized, and I'm not sure how something like that can happen. Nevertheless, I have a test version for you both to try. http://www.sandboxie.com/SandboxieInstall32-345-07a.exe You would also need DebugView from Microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx Install this Sandboxie version 3.45.07a, then install DebugView. Clear the debug view log (Ctrl+X) then then use Run Any Program in Sandboxie Control. When everything works correctly, I get this output: snipped. --tzuk Please paste your results. |

I followed your instructions and this is all I get
snipped. --tzuk Sandboxie then gives me the RpcSs error over and over every 20 seconds and nothing else gets displayed in DbgView. |
