Have a read here:

And by the way, I'm glad I haven't had access to my personal computer for the last week, and won't do so for another couple of days. Hopefully Tzuk can resolve this issue completely by then. All the best Tzuk.

Sandboxie 32-345-07 And Shortcut Target Strings

I installed Sandboxie 32-345-07, after using Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs to uninstall 32-bit Sandboxie 3.44 and deleting the sandbox directory entirely.

One odd thing that I noticed is that the Sandboxie installer simply exited after the installation ended. Its final message did NOT say anything about re-starting or rebooting the computer, nor did the installer automatically reboot the computer as it has done after previous Sandboxie installs. So I rebooted Windows XP myself.

Afterward, Sandboxie launched Firefox in the sandbox, without any apparent errors. But when I attempted to run Thunderbird, Sandboxie Start displayed a message as follows:

Could not invoke program:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"

System Error Code:

The System cannot find the file specified.

After a couple of other experiments, I decided to reconstruct the desktop shortcut. So I renamed the existing one to just "Sandboxie", then navigated to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird. There I selected thunderbird.exe with the RMB and on the context menu I used the Send To > Desktop (create shortcut) option. Then I returned to the desktop and edited the new shortcut to place the following string before -- in front of -- the existing Target string (exactly as it follows the colon, ending with a blank space): "C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:Beachbox

So the complete, new Target string is:

"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:Beachbox "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe"

Now Sandboxie launches Thunderbird without any apparent error, too.

It seems to me that Sandboxie is altering the strings in some pre-existing desktop shortcuts during its installation, and it might be doing so when it runs.

nico, SandboxedJeff and possibly others that have problems with Sandboxie 3.45.07. I suggest you delete the contents of all your sandboxes, uninstall Sandboxie and make sure to select the option to discard your Sandboxie settings during un-installation.

Then install Sandboxie 3.45.07. You should get the Welcome To Sandboxie screen when Sandboxie Control starts. If you don't get the welcome screen, it means you still have your old settings intact, so repeat the process and make sure to discard your existing settings.

Now with a fresh Sandboxie 3.45.07 and fresh settings, please check if you still have any problems.

3.45.07 Worked for me.

I had the SBIE 2306, SBIE 2304 error. I was on version 3.42 and installed the new patch over that 3.42 version. Everything appears to work ok now. All software that was already in the sandboxes runs fine. Thanks.

For me, my antivirus was left running, Comodo firewall was set to treat as installer and I didn't need to reboot. (Hopefully it will keep running after I've re-booted)

Nod32 V4 Antivirus
Comodo Firewall V3

I deleted my old installation using revo uninstaller and deleted the ini file. I also made sure the sandbox was gone. Then I installed the new version of Sandboxie. Everything works as before, although i had to reconfigure my settings again.

BTW, I noticed CCleaner no longer erases my sandbox (belt and suspenders) even though it is pointed at it. Any ideas why? Eraser works fine but I like to have a backup available.

If you have updated CCleaner, you may have to edit the entry for your sandbox deletion.
Go into CCleaner's Options > Include > select the entry for your sandbox folder, and then click Edit
Make sure that "Options" in that window says to "Include files and sub-folders".

Thanks, I wasn't using the drop down box properly. I had only pointed to the directories to clear.

There seem to be two distinct problems related to version 3.45.07. It is quickly becoming unmanageable to discuss both problems in the same topic, so I have now split the discussion into two topics.

People who experience errors related to RpcSs following the installation of version 3.45.07. Please participate in this topic:

People who still see errors SBIE2306 and SBIE2304 following the installation of version 3.45.07. Please participate in this topic:

I have not yet installed yesterday's Windows patches (I always wait a day or two precisely because of problems like this) on my XP Pro/sp3. Consequently SB (v.3.44) still works just fine.

Can I uninstall SB/ re-install (v.3.45.07) and then install Windows Update KB979683, or should I do it in the reverse order?
