I used to have this problem with the last version of sandboxie, maybe v3.40?? I can't remember for sure. Anyways I tried a clean reinstall of SBIE and the problem went away. What you could want to do if this doesn't cut it, is to use windbg and post the log here.

cksand I suggest you start by listing some steps to reproduce the problem.

1. I used a web based e mail program and opened the webmail in my sandboxed browser.

2. i received an e mail from someone which had an attachment, which was a gif image.

3. i tried to open the attachment. win7 came up asking me which program to use to open the image. i chose windows photoviewer.

4. photoviewer opened sandboxed.

5. the image did not come up. photoviewer remained blank.

6. i tried to pull up the attachment this way several times. it is a repeatable event.

thanks. not really a big deal but a small issue.

Is it a static or animated gif?

cksand, unfortunately, that doesn't work as a set of step that I can reproduce. Smile

The animation on sandboxie.com front page is GIF, an animated GIF. The "legend" picture below it is a PNG image. How do these two images behave with your Windows photo viewer?

cksand,
Using XP, since I don't have Win 7:
I sent myself emails with a .gif attachment to 2 different email addresses, and accessed the messages at the web mail sites with Firefox.
I had previously set my .gif files to open with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
Besides showing me the graphic image while on-line, one site had a link to the attachment (on the server), that I could click on to open the image on my computer.
Is that the sequence that you followed?
----
On XP, the image opened in a sandboxed Windows Picture and Fax Viewer with no problem.

There are no problems with the gifs on your site. perhaps it is not a gif issue but something to do with allowing an e mail attachment through from this particular webmail program, which is non standard (not hotmail, msn, etc...)

I will wait for something with a pdf or other attachment and report back.
Thanks.

Indeed it is a windows 7 thing. i got another mail with a bmp and tried to open in photoviewer and the same thing happened. for a pdf attachement, it opened fine. this means it is a setting, which unfortunately i am not sure what to do.

i think the program is in syswow64, possibly dll.exe, but i could not get it into the sandbox and working.

help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Perhaps it is the same problem reported by fcharat here:

Yes, it's the same problem. As i said, it's not a major issue. Probably needs to be set in a similar way to setting up to view pdfs, which works well.

I look forward to revisiting when time is less precious. Thank you for your attention.
