Version 3.39.18 has support for password-locking the configuration. Use the Configure menu > Lock Configuration command to activate.

I'm not sure I see a lot of value in a password lock against user accounts that are Administrators.

But this window also makes it easier to manage the EditAdminOnly and ForceDisableAdminOnly options, which are useful where not everyone is an Administrator.

Thanks for this Tzuk.

Tzuk, I'm noticing that if I only tick that the password must be entered to make changes, once I enter the password in the LUA account, for the remaining of the session, I'm able to make any changes as I please. Could this be changed so that a password must be entered every time the user wants to make a change?

Thanks.

EDIT: could it be possible to make it so that Sandboxie control can't even be opened in a LUA?

There is a third checkbox in the Lock Configuration screen.

Why? What are you trying to restrict?

Not sure whether I get the concept right.

I had the password protect option checked & tried to edit & save the Sandboxie.ini file.

There wasn't a password prompt, instead the following message came out.

Where can I key in the password in order to edit?

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, the error message read:

Cannot create the C:\WINDOWS\Sandboxie.ini file.

Make sure the file name and path are correct.

Password protection pretty much disables the option of manually editing Sandboxie.ini. This is discussed briefly here:

http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?EditPassword

Otherwise, any Admin operating Sandboxie Control, could Edit Configuration and then delete the line containing the password. This added protection on Sandboxie.ini makes it slightly more difficult to do that.

I would agree however, that I should make the Edit Configuration command unavailable when password protection is enabled.

Thanks for the reply.

Am I right to say the only way to edit configuration is to uncheck the password protect option?

You need administrative privileges to access the Lock Configuration dialogue. If you don't have administrative privileges (default on Vista and 7), you will have to exit Sandboxie Control and restart it using Run as.

tzuk: After adding support for password-locking configuration you should consider reviewing:

http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?CommonFeatureRequests

"Password-protect Sandboxie configuration

Consider the Edit Admin Only setting as an alternative to password protection. "
