Sandboxie v3.34 works properly for browsing Firefox 3.07 on my main (Administrator rights) account, but when I attempt to open Firefox in my Guest account, I get this message:

SBIE 2320 Could not Disable Windows Explorer as Desktop Process [C0000022]

When I click on Help (un-Sandboxed browser) your "help" tells me why it happened, but says nothing of how to solve it.

Yes I could web surf Sandboxed using my main account , but I would much prefer to use the Guest account.

Any *simple* (step-by-step) solutions?

Thanks

I forgot to mention that it's a Windows XP SP3. Neutral

SBIE2320 should have another number in addition to the C0000022 error code. Can you say what that other number is?

Tzuk,

It's [11/C0000022]
Sandboxies 3.32 and later doesn't work under guest account.

Tried it under a fresh install of Windows XP(nlite) SP3. And under windows xp SP2(with various softwares installed) and I get the same results. Version 3.32 and 3.34 no longer works under the guest account. However, version 3.30 and earlier works flawlessly.

These are the list of errors I get.

SBIE2206 failed processing autoexec setting -2 [c0000022]
SBIE2326 cannot prepare registry [11 / c0000022]
SBIE2309 could not disable com+/dcom [11 / c0000022]
SBIE2311 could not disable recycle bin [99 / c0000001]
SBIE2312 could not enable browsenewprocess setting [77 / c0000001]
SBIE2320 could not disable windows explorer as desktop process[11 / c0000022]

this is a great piece of software. would be dissappointing if the newer versions doesn't run under the guest account. Thanks for any reply.

Perhaps some other security software mistakenly thinks that Sandboxie is trying to modify a "real" registry key which is related to Windows Explorer, when in fact Sandboxie is only trying to modify the registry in the sandbox.

Do you use any other security software?

I use Comodo Internet Security (with Avast v4.8 Home Edition in place of the Comodo Antivirus) and Comodo BOClean.

Just out of curiosity I set up an additional account and found that I can web surf with Firefox Sandboxed on this account with either Admin or Limited privileges.

Then I went back to the Guest account and got the same [11/C0000022] error code.

So the glitch seems to be limited to the Guest account.

Now that I know that I can web surf Sandboxed on an additional account with Limited privileges, I can live with that.

However, I'd like to know if other people are unable to use Firefox Sandboxed on an XP SP3 Guest account ?

Suppose I want to reproduce the problem. How do I log into the Guest account?

On an XP (Home) SP3, go to control panel and click on "User Accounts" .

The User Accounts screen will give you a choice of "Pick a task..." or "or pick an account to change".

Where it says "or pick an account to change", click on the Guest icon (The Guest account is off by default), and on the next screen click "Turn on the Guest Account".

The User Accounts screen will come back up to verify that the Guest Account is now on.

Then you can exit that screen.

Go to Start > Log Off > Switch User.

The next splash screen will allow you to log in to the Guest account, which has limited privileges.

The problem was that Sandboxie creates objects with permissions for "Authenticated Users" while the Guest account is not considered a member of "Authenticated Users". So I also added permissions to "Everyone" and it seems to resolve the problem.

However, if you have an existing installation of Sandboxie, you need to completely remove the sandbox folder (including C:\SANDBOX itself), and also restart the computer, to get rid of all the "old" objects with their old permissions.

Thank you very much. I've downloaded Sandboxie 3.35.18 and it works under the Guest account. But I've found one small problem: "Run Sandboxed..." context menu does not work correctly under the Guest account.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log in under the Guest account.
2) Click with right button on any program or document
3) Choose "Run Sandboxed..."

Expected Result:
Program or document is run sandboxed

Actual Result:
"Open With" system dialog appears. If you choose program to open this file and press OK, chosen program will be run in not sandboxed mode.

Running applications from "Sandboxie Control" works correctly, so I think "Run Sandboxed..." context menu just calls "Open With..." action.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Update-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I've checked this problem on other accounts.
It is not reproduced on:
1) Administrator account
2) Account that was used to setup sandboxie
3) All newly created accounts (with guest, limited and administrative rights)
It is reproduced on all other acconts.

Problem can be fixed by turning off and turning on "Add right-click action `Run Sandboxed' to files and folders" checkbox in Configure->Windows Shell Integration. Looks like it is installer issue.

Thanks Tzuk,

Have the changes that you made been put into v 3.34, or are they only in the v 3.35 beta ?

Thanks Tzuk. Tried version 3.35 beta, and the problem described is resolved. Thank you! Oh yeah, uninstalling the affected versions and installing 3.35 thereafter reproduces the same prob. Probably the uninstallation doesn't do a clean job. Installed 3.35 on a image of Windows Xp that never had sandboxie installed and the problem never came up again.
