I have had a 27 second cold loading time accessing Firefox sandboxed, and a 17 second cold loading time accessing FF not Sandboxed. If I exit Sandboxie, FF starts in 4 seconds. Is there a fix? Thanks
I'm using the latest SBie version and I'm using Windows XP sp3.

I have a similar initial load time on my laptop.. My desktop is about 1/3rd that time. There is no workaround other than to minimize or eliminate your extensions. I load about 20 extensions, including some of the bigger ones, TabMix, Adblock, NoScript, and ScrapBook.

TWL845, please clarify that. Are you saying that if Sandboxie Control (the yellow tray icon) is there or not there, that has some effect on the start-up time for a Firefox that is not running under Sandboxie?

I tried disabling my extensions and it had no affect on boot time.

Since my first post I have tried a few things. It seems that if I don't load SBie on bootup, FF loads in 17 seconds any way. If I close FF and re-load it, it starts in 4 seconds. If I start FF using Sandboxie, it takes 27 seconds every time.

So at least we know that Sandboxie doesn't have an effect on programs not running under its supervision. Which is what I expected.

As for the 27 seconds, can only repeat what I suggested earlier, that it may be related to some add-on or extension. Can you try running a sandboxed Firefox in Firefox Safe Mode, so no add-ons at all are loaded by Firefox? If you then see Firefox starting in four seconds, then it would confirm the delay is caused by an add-on.

"If I close FF and re-load it, it starts in 4 seconds." - thats true for EVERY windows program since the Pentium-II era i.e 1999. Start it once.. shut it down.. start it again.. faster. Why? I think its something to do with prefetching and loading from ram/page file. When you run a program it loads into ram/pagefile and stays there. After you shut it, i think windows dosent clear the area immediately so if you start the program again it loads super fast from there. This is a non-issue.

Regarding the firefox 27seconds:
I've posted about this before. Firefox reads a LOT of data off the disk on startup. With sbie its reading off coupla locations ie programfiles\mozilla, documentsettings\appdata, sbie\documentssettings\appdata. If you CLEAR the sandbox everytime then EVERYTIME firefox startsup it creates a lot of directories and files (19 files 23 folders occupying 3mb on my setup) so it'll definetly take time to loadup. Now lets down to brass-tacks.. *grin*. Idea if you are using a real-time anti virus and or more products hips, etc etc then all that data's read again.... so it'll definetly be slow.

27secs is a lot... my normal startup's 5-8 and sbie startup is 8-10. i don't use any other product except Com0d0 internet security (which is pretty light IMO). I've a 5yr old p-mobile-1.6, 1gbram, xpsp3, 40gbhdd 4800... Embarassed

ps. try this with IE .. it should load up almost at the same time with or without sandboxie.... report back.

thanks for reading.

So the strangest thing Sb does is loading MSN.com which is my home page. I just keep it as my HP because A) I actually do like its layout and B) My wife uses hotmail (the worst of the web mails) so it's convenient for her. Anyway, loads it Sb in seven seconds, seven seconds later Ff uses 100% CPU rendering all functions useless for six seconds. I time this with my cell phone. Not Sboxed, Ff goes to 88% for what seems like less than one second, quicker than I can time it anyway. I tried flash block, disabled Ff extensions and plugins and disabled anti-malwares and firewall but cannot change the behavior. Also, this only occurs with MSN, not any other website that I've tried. Six additional seconds is a small price to pay I suppose!

At least I'm not the only one this happens to, with a sandboxed Firefox. I estimated that about 6 seconds after Fx displays the home page (any home page) Fx goes to 99% cpu and stays there for 8-10 seconds. With a sandboxed IE or with an unsandboxed Fx, the cpu load gets high, but doesn't last very long.
I posted it in the context of reported "Buffer Overflow" results for "RegQueryKey" operations involving the sandbox and CLSID Querys.

IE is embedded in Windows so is mostly already loaded before you click the IE icon to go on line. Thus a 4 second load up every time. I guess I will just accept the slow load up of FF and slower load up of SBie as that's the way it is. I'll survive it. FF is coming out with a new engine, supposingly to compete with Chrome for speed. We'll see.

that was my point friend. this startup delay has less to do with SBIE and more to do with the way firefox starts up. In my experience, firefox is the slowest of all the browsers but with the best add-ons support hence the fact i am still with it. Otherwise id use opera/ie anyday. i NEED addblock...

The delay has got to be due to Sandboxie.Firefox starts quick without, and for me it was still quick with the previous version, the one i still use.Lots of people have said firefox is slower with the latest version..

I installed Opera just for grins, and configured it to my liking best I could. Opera loads cold after a bootup in 13 seconds, and in 3 seconds in subsequent accesses. That's not sandboxed. I looked in the control panel and found that FF used 39mbs of space, and Opera uses 5mbs. I am going to momentarily shut off my Online Armor and load FF in and out of Sandboxie. If there's a significant difference I'll report back.
