I upgraded to 3.35.17 I removed \RPC Control\plugplay from Resource Access->IPC Access->Direct Access from the Sandboxie box SkypeBox. Skype 4.0.0.206 initialized and became ready without errors. Thanks a bunch. tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=34163#34163 Mon Mar 16, 2009 5:44 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=34163#34163 Thanks for checking JimOfCR. I did find a small problem related to this. Please try again with version 3.35.17. JimOfCR: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=34135#34135 Sun Mar 15, 2009 4:43 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=34135#34135 I have upgraded to Sandboxie 3.35.16. I removed \RPC Control\plugplay from Resource Access->IPC Access->Direct Access from the Sandboxie box SkypeBox. The Skype initializing window displayed followed by the Windows AppCrash dialog with Skype.exe named. I decided to try reinitializing Vista. I got the same results but after the AppCrash dialog, I got an Access Violation msg for Skype.exe. I then restored the \RPC Control\plugplay into the configuration for SkypeBox. Skype initializied and operated normally. I will continue to use 3.35.16 with \RPC Control\plugplay until advised otherwise. Thanks for tackling this and good luck on tracking it down. Let me know if I can help through providing more information. In addition to being a developer for over 30 years, I also have years of experience in testing software of many types. tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=34005#34005 Wed Mar 11, 2009 9:19 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=34005#34005 Please try version 3.35.15. http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4985 tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=33974#33974 Tue Mar 10, 2009 6:51 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=33974#33974 Like I said, I believe I fixed it already, but I'll need your confirmation later on. Adding \RPC Control\plugplay does, in fact, allow Skype to run on my machine. tzuk, your mention of Skype trying to access devices is interesting because my webcam stopped working with Skype 4 beta. I kept reporting it to them. With the official release of version 4, my webcam resumed working (and the problem with sandboxing began). Interestingly, my webcam worked fine with earlier versions of Skype running in a Sandboxie sandbox. Thanks very mucyh for thie workaround. I worry about the security of peer-to-peer technology like that of Skype. The workaround may not be ideal (and maybe it is), but at least I have Skype back inside its own private sandbox again. tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=33742#33742 Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:04 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=33742#33742 I think I managed to fix this. Without changing the default configuration, I started Skype 4.0.0.206 in the only sandbox: DefaultBox. It crashed. In the Sandboxie window, I see: Start.exe A few seconds later Start.exe disappears and I see: Skype.exe, , SandboxieRpcSs.exe, SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe Next, the Skype 'signing in' window appears on the desktop. A few seconds later, skypePM.exe appears in the Sandboxie window followed a second later by Werfault.exe. The 'App has stopped working' dialogbox appears on the desktop. Details say that an AppCrash has occurred and Skype.exe is named. At this point, I give up. I can think of nothing further to do. My version of Vista is Home Premium with SP1 and all updates installed up to and including those of this morning. I will just have to run Skype without a sandbox. It sounds the same as the one I reported above. I am not running the free version of Sandboxie. I do not have the Google toolbar installed on Skype. I do not want to return to an earlier version of Skype because call quality is so much better with the new version ... no echo, no delay. I will continue to run Skype un-sandboxed until I can figure out what is going on. Note that I mention in my first post that I used a new, completely unrestricted sandbox and still could not run Skype sandboxed. If I figure this out, I will post back what I did. Vista 32bit Bussiness SP1 - Sandboxie 3.34 Funny thing is when I have DropMyRights enabled, it reaches a certain point of loading and then Microsoft says Skype stoped working. When I don't use DropMyRights as soon as I run Skype Sandboxed there's an Access violation error. Hope it will help in any way :) dogdog: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=33601#33601 Fri Feb 27, 2009 12:28 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=33601#33601 Tried uninstalling & reinstalling Sandboxie - problem still there.
