Sandboxie Forum - IE and Firefox will not open sand-boxed (11296) http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=11296 en-us 90 Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:22 am Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:22 am tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71734#71734 Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:22 am http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71734#71734 Problem is fixed in version 3.57.08. Also, added compatibility settings for iolo System Mechanic. But I already fixed it so it won't do that when the service is disabled, so this problem will not repeat itself with future versions. Cracker_Jak: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71652#71652 Tue Aug 23, 2011 2:13 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71652#71652 yeah I know eh, funny how something simple as that can bring down a good program! I'm just happy I have my Sandboxie back in something besides Chrome. SnDPhoenix: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71627#71627 Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:49 am http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71627#71627 So that's it? The problem was just that the font cache service was disabled? Hmm, we'll have to remember this in case someone else comes along and has this same issue with IE/Fx crashing sandboxed. :P tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71610#71610 Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:34 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71610#71610 Glad to see this problem resolved. Thanks for the iolo link. :) Cracker_Jak: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71609#71609 Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:33 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71609#71609 Good news it worked, thank you so much. My font cache was disabled. Problem solved I know I said after diner but I couldn't wait. Thanks for your time with this . Have a great one Cracker_Jak: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71608#71608 Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:22 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71608#71608 System Mechanic Professional is the SM. Made by Iolo . I found it on their website www.iolo.com/system-mechanic/standard. I'll get to the other after dinner. tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71607#71607 Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:15 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71607#71607 One more thing: Can you open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and check the status of your Windows Font Cache Service? Is it set to disabled? If so, try to enable it. EDIT: Ok, I checked, if I set the Windows Font Cache Service to disabled, then I see the same problem with Firefox not starting properly. So I'm fairly sure that is the problem. Still, if you can give me a link for the "iolo sm" software, I would still like to have it. Thanks! tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71606#71606 Mon Aug 22, 2011 8:11 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71606#71606 Thanks. I know you said earlier that you removed iolo and the problem was still there but the debug log is showing that a DLL from iolo is playing a part here. Earlier you described the program as "iolo sm" or something like that, but I'm not sure I know what that means. Can you tell me where I can get this program so I can try to install it and see if I get the same problem? I put the link in my earlier post in this topic. So what you should do is use the Break command from the Debug menu to force execution of Firefox.exe to stop, then you should issue some debugger commands to display information about the program, as described in the "Final Step" section of the debugger guide here: http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?HowToUseWinDbg Also, if possible, use version 3.57.07 (which I released earlier today) so the information in the debugger is in sync with my copy of Sandboxie. I mean, it might help tzuk but I have to say, that's extremely short, there should be a lot more info in that log if I'm not mistaken. Why the 32 bit debugger when I have a 64 bit system? tzuk: http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71564#71564 Sun Aug 21, 2011 8:18 pm http://www.sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=71564#71564 I have some step-by-step instructions here: http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?HowToUseWinDbg First thing to try is install the (32-bit) debugger and then configure Firefox in Sandboxie as a forced program. Then you start the debugger and tell it to "Open Executable" (it's a command in the File menu in the debugger) and the executable is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe" Again, Firefox.exe should be set as a forced program for this test. Then press F5 to run Firefox under Sandboxie. Let me know how it goes, or if you need any clarifications with any of this. As for the problem, I'm afraid that I didn't see anything else in the resource log or your Sandboxie.ini file that hints about the cause of the problem. I'm sorry. Would you like to try to run Firefox in the sandbox under a debugger to see if that gives an hints? It could be a bit of a hassle so it's up to you. If you want we can try to figure it out. A good first step is to post a Resource Access Monitor log. Start the log before running anything in the sandbox: http://www.sandboxie.com/index.php?ResourceAccessMonitor You can close the monitor about 1-2 minutes after the program fails to start, this will copy the log contents to the clipboard, and you can then paste it here. Did you install any kind of an addon or something which integrates into IE/Fx but not Chrome? Also it could be a privileges error or something because IE/Fx both run from Program Files while Chrome launches from your AppData folder, thus perhaps something changed the permissions of Sandboxie or a folder path like Program Files? Do you at least get any kind of error messages? Upon creation a new sandbox should have default settings and no content, so it is a good way to determine if the problem is related to a specific sandbox, or a general problem with all sandboxes. My problem is this. I was using Sandboxie 3.45 and all was well. As soon as I upgraded to most recent version I wasn't able to open IE or Firefox sand-boxed. I tried to open Firefox in safe mode via shift. Task Manager shows Firefox as running. IE opens but the page is empty and unresponsive. Chrome works fine but I would rather use Firefox. Any suggestions?
