| Yabbadoo, it's good that you've found a free firewall solution that suits your needs, but why would you need switches for turning on/off the Windows firewall anymore? |

Just a quick FYI: I can't speak for Win 7, but on XP, PrivateFirewall automatically disables and replaces the Windows Firewall and is listed in the Windows Security Center.
At least on every installation I've performed over the past few years. (I suppose YMMV but that's the way it was intended to work.) |

Unfortunately JPF isn't free, it costs 39,95 .
The latest version is 2.1.0.10.

Michael, thank you so much for all your help, the thread has been very useful to me.
I have now installed PrivateFirewall and it is working fine. I am very pleased with it so far. Easy to use and configure, does all I need. No problem with log viewer and it is FREE.
If you are interested :-
I have set up two desktop icons to enable or disable Windows FW, only takes a few minutes. I find them great instead of going through the normal laborious procedure.
Go to this link and follow the sequence. It is very easy, just a few minutes. I have done it and my two new icons work great :-

PS - The procedure is for Windows 7, but I use Windows XP Home and it all worked out fine. |

plugin-container.exe is a memory eater. I decided to disable it and now FireFox works much better.
Disabling plugin-container.exe I only noticed one difference compared with having it enabled: to see videos in vimeoīs web I must choose the couch mode. For the rest I didnīt notice any difference. |
My problem is a little bit more complex. If I disable plugin-container.exe (and if my nitropdf reader is enabled), I will not be able to open pdf formats, I checked this out in AV comparatives pdf documents when I was opening them.
The other strange thing is that Internet Explorer is beyond Sandboxie's restrictions. I blocked/enabled start/run for nitro pdf and plugin-container.exe just to see if on Internet Explorer will open pdf document of AV comparatives.org, and it did witout any problems, despite I blocked for both nitro pdf and plugin-container.exe to start/run.
How is that possible?
My internet explorer 8 is beyond Sandboxie's restrictions? |

| Having plugin-container.exe enabled allows saving the browser from a crash, in case some flash movie makes it hang, by killing the plugin-container.exe process, which can then be restarted by refreshing the page that caused the hang in the first place. But that rarely happens, and if the browser does crash, it's no big deal. So maybe it's worth having it disabled to save memory. |

And this is the one I've been talking about, I use this same feature ("The following programs will be the only programs in this sandbox that can start and run") and my entire computer was blocked to start/run just because I only let iexplore.exe and firefox.exe to start/run.
This is why I don't know how to actually block start/run and what exactly...
Cheers. |
You should open a thread in "Problem Reports" commenting that. I think thatīs not the expected behaviour for that feature. |
Should I allow to start/run rundll32.exe? Sandboxie notifies me that rundll32.exe has been blocked to start/run every time I open internet explorer and surf it, is this ok? |
With either blocked or allowed rundll32.exe my internet works normally except that message that reappears, however I needed to allow to run plugin-container.exe and Nitro PDF reader, but I blocked internet access.
Cheers. |

I would recommend allowing it to run.
I have it listed in my sandboxes that use Start/Run Restrictions. |

Does Internet Explorer work fine having rundll32.exe disabled? If it does, then block it and use "Hide Message" when appears the message so you will not see it again. |

It does not matter anymore, I finally had enough courage to do this all over again, and it's ok, everything works as it should. However, this problem was present in an previous version of Sandboxie that I tried the same thing, Tzuk obviously solved this problem, since I didn't experience anything bad like frozen computer, everything works like it should.
Thanks anyway. |

Certainly not. I employ that feature in every box and I've never had or heard of anything like that (on XP Pro SP3). |
